Poster and Demo Submissions

Faculty members, researchers, students (graduate and undergraduate) from technical, management and design streams are encouraged to submit their abstracts (limited to two pages for each abstract), with details of the poster or demo – title, author name, author title (Faculty/Student enrolled for PhD/MTech/BTech./MBA) to the link here (link resides outside of ibm.com). Note, you need to create a login at EasyChair for submission if you don't already have it.
For each selected poster or demo, a partial travel stipend (Rs 3000/-) will be provided to out-station students (i.e., other than Delhi) to help defray workshop attendance costs (travel, lodging etc).

Submission Guidelines

All submissions will be screened by the I-CARE Program Committee. Authors of selected submissions will be invited to I-CARE for presenting the work as a poster.
All submissions should contain sufficient information for the reviewers to make a fair evaluation on how the material applies to the targeted audience. You are not expected to create a poster at this time.

Formatting Instructions

Submissions must be formatted in the ACM proceedings format, using one of the templates available at www.acm.org/sigs/pubs/proceed/template.html (link resides outside of ibm.com). Templates are available in Word and LaTeX (version 2e). For the LaTeX formats, you may use either the standard style or the SIG-alternate style.

Page Limits

Submission Instructions

The submitted papers must be in pdf or doc (Microsoft Word) formats. It is essential that they print without difficulty on a variety of printers using Adobe Acrobat Reader or Microsoft Word. Submission should be done through EasyChair at www.easychair.org/account/signin.cgi?conf=icare2011 (link resides outside of ibm.com)

Advice on preparing the submission

Your submission will be used by the selection committee to determine if your topic is selected for poster presentation at the I-CARE. Clearly, your abstract has to be as good as it can be, but writing a good abstract is not easy. Following some simple guidelines can help you write the very best abstract possible -- one that will optimally represent your presentation, and one that will provide you the best opportunity to present to an audience at I-CARE and share your knowledge, experience, and insights. Some thoughts and suggestions for writing a compelling abstract can be found here.

Dear Bill Gates,teach me too!!!

1. Bill Gates earns US$250 every second, that's about US$20 Million a DAY and US$7.8 Billion a YEAR!

2. If he drops a thousand dollar, he won't even bother to pick it up bcoz the 4 seconds he picks it, he would've already earned it back.

3. The US national debt is about 5.62 trillion, if Bill Gates were to pay the debt by himself; he will finish it in less then 10 years.

4. He can donate US$15 to everyone on earth but still be left with US$5 Million for his pocket money.

5. Michael Jordan is the highest paid athlete in US. If he doesn't drink and eat, and keeps up his annual income i.e. US$30 Million, he'll have to wait for 277 years to become as rich as Bill Gates is now.

6. If Bill Gates was a country, he would be the 37 th richest country on earth.

7. If you change all of Bill Gate's money to US$1 notes, you can make a road from earth to moon, 14 times back and forth. But you have to make that road non-stop for 1,400 years, and use a total of 713 BOEING 747 planes to transport all the money.

8. Bill Gates is 40 this year. If we assume that he will live for another 35 years, he has to spend US$6.78 Million per day to finish all his money before he can go to heaven.

Last but not the least: If Microsoft Windows' users can claim US$1 for every time their computers hang because of Microsoft Windows, Bill Gates will be bankrupt in 3 years !!!!!!! !!!!

Humbly they announced "We just hacked SONY"!!!

 Recent past:
In mid April 2011, Sony Computer Entertainment was subjected to external DDoS attacks. To further complicate matters, roughly a week later (on 4/20/11), the PlayStation Network was again attacked, but more severely.

Now:
A prestigious hacker group "LulzSec" announced  that they had gained access to SonyPictures.com and stolen over 1 million accounts, passwords and sensitive user information. Shortly after the news broke, copies of the compromised data were surfacing on filesharing websites and BitTorrent trackers including The Pirate Bay.

The group left a message on PasteBin revealing the full extent of the intrusion, which includes thousands of email and password combinations, personal information (including names, addresses, dates of birth and phone numbers), nearly 3.5 million "music coupons" and over 60,000 "music codes". The group also announced that Sony's security was overcome by a simple SQL injection attack.

In a statement, the group said: "SonyPictures.com was owned by a very simple SQL injection, one of the most primitive and common vulnerabilities, as we should all know by now. From a single injection, we accessed EVERYTHING. Why do you put such faith in a company that allows itself to become open to these simple attacks?"

The group also stated: "Every bit of data we took wasn't encrypted. Sony stored over 1,000,000 passwords of its customers in plaintext, which means it's just a matter of taking it. This is disgraceful and insecure: they were asking for it."

The group has released much of the plundered data, though these only contain a small amount of the compromised data. Full databases have also been posted online, along with a database layout text document to aid the extraction of data. The database contains both military and government email and password combinations, and also admin accounts to Sony Pictures Online.

The following excerpt was taken from the "FILE CONTENTS.txt" document that accompanies LulzSec's limited release:

Contents of our plunder:
## Sony_Pictures_International_AUTOTRADER_USERS.txt ##- In this file you will find just under 12,500 customers of Sony;this includes dates of birth, addresses, emails, full names, passwords, user IDs, and personal phone numbers.
## Sony_Pictures_International_COUPONS.txt ##- In this file you will find just under 20,000 Sony music coupons;please note that there are 3.5 million coupons to take - get them!!
## Sony_Pictures_International_MUSIC_CODES.txt ##- In this file you will find just under 67,000 Sony music codes;they're like magnets,i simply have no idea how they work.
and much more...

I havnt been mentioning some 20 more file names showing some pity to Sony!!

Future:
Well..dear SONY we didnt expect this from you. By the way  hats off to you LulzSec!!This is what a white hack means. LulzSec just exposed Sony's vulnerabilities and thats all.

PLEASE NOTE:This article is dedicated to my friend who was just boasting about SONY:-)

Tech Quiz Series- 2011

I am happy to announce that i will be starting the TechnologyIntersect Quiz Series-2011 shortly  for all the quiz enthusiasts very soon...

Difference between Core i3 , i5 and i7

Does these processors all look same to you?or ever wandered which processor to opt for??

3<5<7. So Core i3<Core i5<Core i7 – Curious me. Was quizzing a computer vendor on my last visit to buy a laptop. In series of processor analysis, I bring to you the technical yet readable differences between the Intel Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7 processors. Absolutely right, Core i7 is more powerful than Core i5 and Core i5 is more powerful than Core i3. But what exactly makes them different? To explain that, I first need
to describe two technologies:

1. The Intel Turbo Boost Technology: Intel Turbo Boost Technology helps deliver more performance
when and where you need it. If the processor detects that it is below its power, temperature, and current
limits, its clock frequency increases to boost performance for active processor cores. Optimization of available resources. So if you are running a multi threaded application, that requires more power the technology intelligently increases the clock frequency. And if you are running a legacy application that is not multi-threaded the clock speed is increased further. Now for an analogy to this.
Relate this to the problem of allocation of resources. Suppose you work for a construction
company, and the company is working on construction of multiple buildings.
With the available resources you have two options: Either divide the entire work force
for different constructions or deploy some and keep a buffer. What Intel Turbo Boost Technology does is analogous to keeping a buffer.

2.The Intel Hyper Threading Technology: This is the ‘HT’, you’ve seen over the Pentium 4 logo some years back. What his does is that, it allows multiple threads to be processed by a single core. But what’s a
thread? I quote from theWiki: In computer science, a thread of execution is the smallest unit of processing that can be scheduled by an operating system. More simply relate multi threaded applications
to be multiple applications. I safely make that statement as many of the Intel Technologies videos use the same terminology.

Single Core Processors: Processors that processed  just single threads.

Single Core Processors with Hyper Threading Technology: Process Multiple
Threads at single Time. The Pentium 4 stuff. Dual Core Processors: Two threads are processed in two separate cores on a single processor. The important point here is that this isn’t Hyper Threading, since one core is processing only a single thread.

Quad Core Processors: The same technology as the Dual Core Processors, except that the Dual Cores as the name suggests have 2 cores and the Quad Core have 4 Cores. More Cores, more power!

Multiple Cores with Hyper Threading Technology: This is something really fast than any of the previous processors, I have discussed through out the post. In such processors, every core on a multiple core processors processes 2 threads. So a Quad Core Processor with Hyper Threading Technology, can process 8 Threads at a time! Now that you know about the different kind of processor technologies, the comparision between the Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7 becomes more easy to understand.

A Core i3 processor has 2 Cores, and it
manages 4 Threads. Yes, it supports Hyper Threading but no Turbo Boost.

A Core i5 processor has 4 Cores and it manages
4 Threads. It doesn’t support Hyper Threading but
it does support the Intel Turbo Boost Technology.

A Core i7 processor has 4Cores and it manages 8
Threads. Yes, it supports Hyper Threading and Intel Turbo Boost Technology. What’s also different is that the Core i7 and Core i5 processors have different cache sizes. If you have little knowledge about cache, just take it for now that more the cache, more the speed.
The comparison is for desktop processors with certain clock speeds. Cores on Core i7
can go up to 6, and hence number of threads up to a whooping 12. . Now being familiar
with these technologies, you are readyto read between the lines of the technical
specifications sheets.

Microsoft Surface 2.0

Microsoft has now come up with Microsoft 2.0 after the sucess of its first product released in 2008.
The Microsoft Surface platform brings people together to connect, learn, and decide. It enables experiences that change the way people collaborate and connect with a 360-degree interface. And, with" Pixel Sense, Microsoft Surface sees and responds to touch and real world objects—supporting more than 50 simultaneous inputs.
This experience comes to life with the new 40 inch Samsung SUR40 for Microsoft Surface that can be used as a table, on the wall, or embedded in other fixtures or furniture.
Surface 2.0 platform software and SDK is build upon:
  • Embedded Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
  • .NET Framework 4.0
  • Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) 4.0
  • Microsoft XNA Framework 4.0
  • Windows PowerShell and DMTF DASH support, and enhanced administrator tools.
With further hardware firmware and software optimizations to make, Microsoft anticipates general availability later this year. The now more affordable device will actually be sold through Samsung’s distribution channels (instead of Microsoft) to further broaden its appeal.

  Well here they are:
 1.Apple iPad
2.Google Android

Feel free to comment..

U WILL CERTAINLY PAY FOR IT!!!!!!

You switch on your computer. You start a internet browser.

Its time for routine  checking of your facebook or twitter profile(considering  Orkut is extinct)..Then  you want to  see trailer of a yet to be released or a newly released movie..you want to see it again and again..some videos even tempt you to download them..
But imagine if these “free” to access websites switched to become “paid” services. Will you the pay the price? Here’s how some of the services may change for the worse!

Facebook: Social Networking @ $0.99 . What’s on your mind? Post it down at $0.99. You were tagged in an album, Mr X likes your post, pay $0.99. They can keep signing up for the account free though. They may change their tag line on the website to : Worth the price and everyone can join!

Twitter: What are you doing? Tell the world in $ 3 only. Or a twitter whale(shows up during server busy or server failure conditions)appears on your screen and says “you can be back with your friends in $2”

You Tube: You heard that a sneak peak of a new movie was exclusively available on You Tube. How about if You Tube shows you first half of the trailor and asks you to pay $1 to watch the complete trailer!!  Will you pay the price?

GPS with Google Maps: You start to move on the directions calculated. At a point the application asks you, Left or Right? Pay $2 to know!

Instant Messengers: The Instant time killers in fact. How about if they become paid? Horrible Idea.!!

What makes me  to think these free to paid transitions in the future is  the level of addiction we have in using these websites or utilities. We now many a times use google maps  nothing but just for fun, let’s find the directions between our college  and home. Or endlessly sit down to watch repeats of a T.V. program  on YouTube. If these services would have been paid, we would have perhaps been more sensible in our approach to using these websites or  some may even end up paying the price!!

What’s your say??post your comments below at a cost!!!(just kidding).
